December 10 : Thoughts from the Cemetery

'The chapel or chapels ought to be placed in a central and conspicuous situation, so as, if possible, to be seen from all the prominent points of view along the roads and walks.'

John Claudius Loudon, 1843; On the laying out, planting, and managing of Cemeteries, and on the improvement of Churchyards.

Indeed ours is in the middle and can be seen from most parts of the now extended cemetery. Even if it is just the tip of the tower.
This is a side view through the frame of magnificent trees possibly planted when the cemetery was in its infancy in the Victorian era. Now in old age they shape the vista and lend shelter to birds and squirrels that frequent the land.
