Wreaths
Victorians used the wreath as a symbol of Victory.
This one is made of laurel leaves which would indicate that the owner of this tomb had made a special contribution or achieved a noteworthy position in life. So here is the tomb in it's wider context. Looking resplendent in the winter sunshine, it is in a prominent location within the cemetery, not far from the central chapel.
It belongs to Alderman J R Gower. The painting is by Leonard Carr Cox.
