If we are supposed to relate to a book then do we apply our values and interpretations to them or do we try to understand the writer. Works aren't written with the purpose of allowing future generations to understand a person in a time and in a place. In regards to Owen, he like many men died young and had no future or prime to dream of, it isn't comprehensible to him so why should it be to us? If he survived then what was his future, another war, another death?<br /><br />Books are literature which in turn are works of art and also a commentary, so context vs without context, I'm undecided.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
